Dear Parents,
This week in Class R we have been talking more about Autumn and sharing phrases and words that remind us of our walk around the school grounds, such as leaves crunching under our feet and leaves falling down. The children added their suggestions to the ideas board and wrote poems about Autumn our family groups. The children have been learning about rhyme. You can help at home by singing nursery rhymes and rhyming songs as well as creating rhyming phrases.
In Maths we have been learning about sorting. The children started by finding objects that are the same, we then began to sort objects into groups and talked about what in each group was the same, colour, size, material. You could practise sorting at home by asking your child to sort the washing or toys into different types, colours or who the item belongs to.
In Phonics the children have been learning the sounds ck, e, u, r and have been continuing to play listening games with instruments and environmental objects to help their listening skills and games such as cross the river and Metal Mike to support their blending and segmenting. The children were introduced to the game ‘Treasure and Trash’ this week and have been practising reading familiar and unfamiliar words. The children have settled well into the morning routine and are now very independent at putting their belongings away in the morning. After half term the children will need to come into the classroom independently of their parents/ Carers. Next week we ask that you try and encourage your child to come in by themselves and put their belongings away Parents/Carers should say goodbye to their child at the gate.
Next week we will start the week by sharing our weekly news. In Maths the children will be counting objects in a group and saying when two groups have the same number of objects. In phonics the children will continue to practise their listening, blending and segmenting and will also learn the graphemes/phonemes h, b, f/ff, l/ll, ss.
