The children have been busy writing some lovely stories based on the book ‘Journey’ and are excited for you to see these at parents evening. We are now moving towards writing a newspaper report so have started to look at some examples of this style of writing and picked out the key features. We will look more closely at headlines and quotes and then work towards planning and writing our own newspaper articles. If you have any newspapers at home (in particular children’s newspapers) please do spend some time looking at these with your child and discussing their purpose and the style of writing.
In maths we have started to look at mental addition and subtraction. We are practicing adding 3 digit numbers to ones, tens and hundreds initially using number lines and jottings to help us but working towards doing these calculations in our head. Once the children become more confident with this we aim to move onto column addition and subtraction. Alongside this we are continuing to work on our number bonds and times tables as well as some problem solving activities.
Next Monday afternoon as part of our geography topic we are going to walk into Wallingford to carry out some research about why people visit, what the buildings on the high street are used for and how much traffic passes through the town centre. Please ensure children come dressed for the weather.
In Science we looked at the difference between an invertebrate and vertebrate. We also looked at muscles in our body, why we need them and how they work.
We planted daffodil bulbs all over the school grounds on Friday afternoon. Hopefully by Spring the school will be covered with a blanket of yellow!
