This week we have continued to write our descriptions about a lovely winter village scene, making sure that we were responding to any feedback we had been given. We then started to use the ideas in our character and setting descriptions to write a Supersprout story. First of all we had to think of a dilemma for Supersprout to face. We then had to imagine how he would try and save the day. We talked about the different parts of a story: the introduction, the build-up, the problem and the resolution. Firstly we used a storyboard to plan our stories in pictures, then we used our pictures to start writing our story. We tried really hard to use the adverb questions (How? When? Where?) to add lots of detail. We also thought carefully about our word choices, particularly our adjectives, to make sure they were interesting and effective.
In maths we have been looking at multiplication. We know that multiplication calculations are commutative, so 6×2=2×6. We had to work out whether different pairs of multiplications were commutative and prove it by drawing arrays. We have been focussing on ‘One thing, many ways’. We had to try and represent the calculation 2×6 in as many different ways as we could. This included representing it by using arrays, part-whole models, bar models, number lines, other pictorial representations and repeated addition.
We have also been really busy rehearsing for our Christmas play. Thank you to everyone who has helped by practising lines at home. The children have done an amazing job of learning their lines as well as all the words to the songs. Thank you also for all the costumes you have provided. We had a great dress rehearsal on Friday and can’t wait to share our play with you next week.
