This week we have been turning our storyboards into stories about Paddington Bear, in particular ‘Paddington takes a bath’. We had to think of all the things that we needed to do in order to make sure our story was well written. We had to think very carefully about our sentence basics (capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and writing on the line); our use of adjectives to describe; writing more than one sentence about an idea and making sure our writing was in the past tense. We tried really hard to follow the success criteria and produced some lovely stories.
In maths we have been looking at comparing numbers sentences using the =, < and > symbols. We know that = means ‘the same as’, < means ‘less than’ and > means ‘greater than.’ Could you give us pairs of calculations and ask us to put the right symbol in the middle? E.g. 1+3 ___ 2+ 2, or 17 – 5 ___ 2 +19. We have also been learning about using the inverse operation to check whether our calculations are correct. For example, to check 11+ 3 = 14 we could use 14 – 3 = 11 (part + part = whole, whole – part = part.
In science we have continued to look at different materials and their properties. We watched a video of materials in action, focussing on why certain materials are used for certain products. We then worked in our groups to look at one particular material. We thought of lots of different things that were made from that material and then considered why it was a good material choice for those objects. We then did a P,N,I chart (positive, negative, interesting) for the question ‘What if everything was transparent?’ We had some very interesting things to say!
We have designed some lovely Christmas cards this week which have now been sent off to be printed. Please look out for these in our book bags in the coming weeks.
