In our English lessons this week we have continued to write our stories set in Chembakolli. We have tried hard to include more detail about characters and the setting, using the adjective and adverb questions to help us. We’ve also been trying to start our sentences in a range of different ways, for example, by starting with an adverb or a preposition. Listening to feedback from adults and from our peers in feedback groups is really important and we’ve been trying really hard to action the next steps we’ve been given. One of the things we have continued to focus on is how professional our work looks on the page – have we taken care over our handwriting and presentation?
Our maths lessons this week have been focused on division. We have used pictorial representations, including bar models and number lines, to help us share our whole into equal groups,
or to work out how many equal groups we can make from a given whole.
We have also continued to learn about life in Chembakolli in our Geography lessons, focusing this week on a typical day for a child in the village. Thinking like geographers, we made comparisons between our lives in Crowmarsh and that of the children in Chembakolli. Ask what differences we discovered and about the daily challenges faced by the children in Chembakolli.
In science we found out all about animals whose habitat is the ocean. We learned about some of the ways in which they are suited to living in the ocean. We found out that lots of animals that live in the sea have streamlined bodies to help them move easily through the water. We also found out that crabs use their legs to fight with other crabs and to burrow in the sand. We also discovered that sea horses need to continuously eat in order to survive, and that they eat 30 – 50 times a day!
