This week we have been writing recounts about our trip to the Victorian Schoolroom in Reading. We read some examples and discussed what features a recount should have. We discovered that recounts are written in the past tense and that they are written in chronological order. Building on skills we’ve already been working on, we tried to group our ideas into clear sections, using time conjunctions and adverbs to link ideas and using prepositions to start some of our sentences.
In maths we have continued to learn about 3D shape. We have been using mathematical vocabulary to discuss shapes and have counted the number of faces, vertices and edges on a selection of 3D shapes. Ask us what these words mean. Later in the week, we started to learn about fractions. To begin with we have been finding ½ and ¼ of shapes or amounts and understanding what the terms half and quarter actually mean.
In ICT we looked at pictograms together and discussed how the information is displayed effectively. We then used the laptops to look at a variety of pictograms and answered questions about them.
During our dance session this week we worked in groups to create interesting sequences of movements. Ask us what our dances were about.
In music, we listened to sections of The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst, another Victorian composer. We discussed how the music for each ‘planet’ sounded different and how various instruments had been used to create effects.
We have continued to look at the work of William Morris in our Art lessons. This week we created repeating patterns using our designs from last week.
