It has been a busy and exciting week for us in Class 2. We started off the week with a visit from some Chinese students and on Wednesday we had our brilliant trip to Reading Museum.
In English this week we have been writing persuasive letters. We looked at a WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like) together and used this to help create our success criteria for our writing. We wrote as though we were a Victorian person asking for children to be allowed to go to school instead of having to work. We thought about all the bad points of having to work as a child, and used these to create our letter.
In our maths lessons we have been continuing to find out about 2D and 3D shapes. We have created shape patterns and written clues to describe 3D shapes using the mathematical vocabulary of faces, vertices and edges.
In our topic lesson on Monday we found out all about Victorian schools in preparation for our trip. Our trip on Wednesday was fantastic. We learned so much about what life would have been like for children in the Victorian times. In the Victorian school room we wrote on slates with a special pencil and wrote in copy books with an ink pen. We also learnt some poems and found out about the different flags that make up the Union Jack. In the afternoon we found out about all the different jobs that children would have to do, even when they were as young as 3!
Following our trip we looked at the different features of recounts. We then planned our own recounts of the trip, making sure everything was in chronological order.
We also had our Christingle church service this week. We made our Christingles in the morning and very carefully carried them to the church where the candles were lit. Ask us to tell you what each part of the Christingle represents.
