This week we have continued to enjoy Paddington stories and have been basing our English work on these. We watched a clip called ‘Paddington takes and Bath’ and read the story as well. Using these, we blocked out the main stages of the story in a story map then Mrs Lucas tried telling the story; however, she did it really badly so we had to give her feedback about how to improve her storytelling! After that we all had a go at telling the story effectively so that we kept our listeners entertained. Ask us how we did this. Later in the week we used a storyboard to plan the story. We then started thinking about how we could include interesting detail in some of our sentences before we write our own versions of the story.
In maths we have been working on counting in tens, fives and twos. We have looked at patterns that can help us when counting on or back, particularly in steps of 10 or 5. When counting in tens we discovered that the ones digit doesn’t change but that the tens digit will go up or down by 10 each time. Knowing this has enabled us to count in tens from any number. When counting in 5s from 0, or any multiple of 5, we realised that the ones digit is alternates between a 0 or a 5.
As part of our geography work about our local area, we went for a walk around our village to discover places we didn’t realise were there (for example the solar farm and the manor house at Howbery Park) and to consider how our village is used and how it has changed over time. Mr Hannigan, the font of all knowledge regarding Crowmarsh(!), came with us and told us all about the different shops that used to be in the village as well as the age of some of the buildings. Did you know that the church is over 1000 years old and was used as a hospital before it became the church? Ask us what else we found out.
In art we continued working on our cityscapes and in science we discovered which materials were magnetic and which were not.
We are pleased to let you know that Mrs Beckett will now be the Class 2 TA every morning and on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
