This week we have continued with our work on Paddington bear. We have been trying really hard to use adjectives in our writing to create character descriptions. Some of us have even included similes – ask us to tell you all about them. We have also been focussing on joining our ideas using conjunctions such as ‘and’, ‘which’, ‘because’ and ‘so’. Can you give us some conjunctions to put into sentences?
In maths we have been continuing to look at place value and thinking about the different ways we can represent 2-digit numbers, e.g. 24 can be represented as 20 and 4, or as 10 and 14. We have used lots of different concrete apparatus to make 2-digit numbers. Some of us remembered our number bonds to 10 and used these to help make the numbers, e.g. 16 as 7+3 and 6. We have also been looking at the position of numbers on a number line and thinking carefully about where different numbers would be.
In science we have been busy creating bridges. We looked at different bridges and talked about what they were made from and why. We were given the challenge of working in groups to create our bridges using only paper, card and sellotape. Our bridges had to be longer than a ruler, stand on their own and be strong enough to hold a toy truck.
In Geography we have been focussing on Crowmarsh village. We have looked at photographs of different buildings in the village, some of which were unfamiliar to us, and thought about who might use them; how they were used and why.
In P.E we have been doing gymnastics with Mrs Scott. We have been learning how to do lots of different jumps, including tuck jumps and star jumps. We also got to share some of our wonderful gymnastics work with the class.
