This week in English, we have been continuing with our work on adjectives. We have been rehearsing how to identify adjectives within a sentence, diagramming adjectives and knowing which adjective question is being answered. We have also been learning how to use a thesaurus to improve our own writing. Next week, we will be using these skills in story writing. In reading, we have continued to explore the plot of ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ by Phillip Pullman.
In Maths we have moved onto addition. We have been using the place value counters to prove our understanding of how to add 2 three and four digit numbers. We then learnt how to apply our knowledge to formal column addition. Towards the end of the week, we started to look at addition where exchange is needed between the place value columns.
This week in history, we have been learning about what life was like for the women and children left at home when the men went to war. We have looked at the jobs that many women began to do and the impact that this had on modern society. We also considered what a typical day would have been like for a child during World War 1.
This week, we have started rehearsals for our Christmas play! All of the children who wanted speaking parts have been allocated them. Please support your child over the next few weeks to learn their lines. Further information about costumes etc. will be given in due course.
