In our English lessons this week we have watched some Paddington Bear clips and collected a range of adjectives to describe his personality and appearance. We had a go at writing similes about him – ask us what a simile is. Later in the week we started writing descriptions of him, adding as much detail as possible.
Our key learning question in Maths this week has been: Can we partition numbers in different ways? We investigated this and proved what we discovered using equipment and drawings. We realised that there are other ways of partitioning numbers other than all the tens in one part and all the ones in another, like this:

We have also been discussing the importance of recording the digits in 2-digit numbers in the correct order so that they represent the correct number of tens and ones.
Our Geography topic this term is ‘Our Local Area’ so Class 2 will be focusing on the village of Crowmarsh, thinking about where it is in the UK, what is in our village and how/why it has changed over time. We have started by looking at where we are in the world, using the words continent, country, county and discussing places that are nearby. It was fun to look at the world on Google Earth and gradually zoom in to find Crowmarsh. After looking at the basic layout of the village we used simple map symbols to show some of the main features of our village on our maps.
Our curriculum talk took place on Wednesday after school. If you were unable to attend then you will find a copy of the class topic web, timetable and Autumn newsletter on the class 2 pages of the school website. You will also find a copy of the Year 1 and 2 common exception words on the website. We will be focusing on these in class but it would be helpful if you could also practise them at home and encourage the children to spell them correctly when completing any home learning tasks. Please start with the Year 1 words because there are still many words on the list that the children mis-spell when writing. The children need to be able to spell these words correctly every time they write, not just in one-word-at-a-time checks.
