Welcome back! We hope you’ve all had a lovely summer break.
The children have settled into their new classroom really well and are already showing us what great purple learners they can be!
We have started our London topic by discussing what we already know about our capital city and thinking of things we’d like to find out. Choosing adjectives carefully, we described some of the most famous London landmarks to the rest of the class to see if they could guess which one we were thinking of. Having looked at non-fiction texts about London and discussed their features, we planned and started writing our own information texts about London. Ask us what we wrote about.
Our maths work has been focused on place value – we have been looking at pictorial representations of 2-digit numbers then writing them in numerals and words. We have also been partitioning numbers using a part-part-whole method.
For example:
In ICT we used directions such as forward, left turn and right turn to give instructions to each other and to Probots (programmable cars!)
On Monday afternoon we watched a video called ‘Austin’s butterfly’ which is about a little boy who learns to draw a butterfly by persevering and listening carefully to the feedback that is given to him. We had a go at drawing our own butterflies and improved them each time based on the feedback given to us.
Our class teddy, Bob, will be coming home with someone in the class starting this week. Bob loves books, so if he comes home please share a book with him and fill out one of the sheets in his folder (only one sheet please!) Please take a picture or ask your child to draw a picture of them reading with Bob, or of the book cover.
