This week we have continued finding out about the events of The Great Fire of London. We thought about what we might have seen and heard at the time, and thought about how we might have felt. We planned and then wrote a diary as though we were in London, in September 1666. We had to remember to use ‘first person’ and to write in the past tense.
In maths we have been learning to add and subtract a single digit number to a two-digit number. If there are ten or more ones then we group them to make another ten. We then work out how many tens we have altogether and how many ones are left over. We have also used number lines to partition the addend (the number we add on) to make the next ten, and vertical addition.
In P.E we have been creating firework dances based on the song ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry. We have been using ribbons to help us look more like fireworks. Mrs Scott said that we were all brilliant!
In science we have been thinking carefully about why certain objects are made from certain materials. We then discussed what might happen if objects were made from less suitable materials. For example, ‘What if door handles were made of chocolate?’ We had to think about the good points: ‘You could eat them!’, the bad points ‘They would melt when it got hot and you would be stuck in the room’, and something interesting ’You could have different flavoured door handles!’
