Maths
In maths we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. We have been spilt into two separate groups, due to our different knowledge of fractions. We have been trying to work out which fractions are equivalent to other fractions by using different methods. One of which was dividing the numerator by the same number as the denominator.
First thing in the morning we are doing our times tables. Once we have mastered one level of times tables we move up to the next level.
English
This week in English our class has been creating our own adventures in different countries. So we have been given separate maps to plot on with other children a route to travel and discovering the culture in other countries. We have been using the laptops for this. We have to research 3 countries in 3 different continents. This will be what our stories are made up from.
Guided Reading
We are reading together the book called Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, and we use questions thought up by Mr Morton. We have to think about how the characters and atmosphere changes throughout the first chapter. We are expected to answer these questions using Point Evidence and Explain, we also must do a plan of how to answer these questions. We have discussed matters that crop up in the story while we read at the same time. Then we practice answering under time management.
Geography
In geography we have been looking at Rivers all over the world. We have looked at the key features and the water cycle. There have been quite a lot of new words and meanings like: meander, levee, source, and mouth.
Art
In art we have been creating dot art with different size dots. We did this from an assembly by Mrs Barton when she read us a book called Dot. They are brilliant and very effective. we are trying to keep them secret so the other classes don’t copy them….yet.
Anything else!
Many thanks for the wonderful Christmas gifts I received; I felt extremely spoilt. This was so kind of you to think of me especially at that busy time in the build up to the special day.
We have got off to a wonderful start to 2018, all the children are working very hard and producing some fantastic pieces of work.
