Week 1 (24/04/17)

Welcome back! We hope that you all had an enjoyable Easter break.

We have had a busy start to the summer term. On Wednesday we had a great time in the Explorer Dome learning about different environments. We found out about different animals that live in the Amazon rainforest and we created a food web linking the animals. We learnt about how to find out if wooden furniture has come from a sustainable source in order to make sure that rainforests are not being destroyed. We also found out about the North Pole and how animals have adapted in order to survive in this environment. We learnt that animal species that are protected from the extreme weather and are able to escape from predators are most likely to survive. In the dome the icy winds of the North Pole were recreated using dry ice and we even saw the Northern Lights! The show finished with a look a rubbish dump and we were reminded about the importance of recycling.

In English this week, we have started our work based on Myst V. We will be using the moving images from this computer game for all of our writing this term. We looked at images of a bridge with a portal in the distance and we thought about imaginative description, similes and metaphors. Later in the week we started to write a piece of descriptive writing based on a descent in an elevator.

We started our Roman topic in History by looking at pictures of artefacts and thinking about questions that we could ask that would help us to understand more about the object.
