Week 1 (20/02/17)

We hope that you all had a lovely half term.

We started this term with a visit from Elizabeth Wright. Elizabeth won a silver medal swimming in the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. Elizabeth talked to the whole school in Collective Worship and then she visited us in Class 4 so that we could find out more about her. Throughout her life, Elizabeth has shown resilience and determination to achieve her goals. She explained how she has had to overcome difficulties but has always learnt from her mistakes. We really enjoyed her visit.

This week in English we started reading ‘Stig of the Dump’. We are already really enjoying the book and so far we have been thinking about the characters Stig and Barney. Towards the end of the week we started thinking in more detail about Stig’s cave and we will be creating estate agent style information sheets about it! This week we have been learning how to diagram grammar. We have looked at subjects and verbs/ verb phrases.

In Maths, we have been continuing with column addition. We have been learning how to add 2 or 3 amounts of money using our place value knowledge.

This week has been our ‘Inspirational Maths’ week. We have watched various short films about maths including how anyone can do maths, the value of deep thinking and why speed is often not important in maths. We have also completed various collaborative maths tasks which have included problem solving and looking at visual patterns.
