Week 1 (07/01/19)

Maths:

This week we have been learning about equivalent fractions. We have learnt to make an equivalent fractions and compare them using the bar model. You can also multiply the denominator and the numerator to get an equivalent fraction. In fluency, we have been recapping what we have done in the past. This includes all our formal and mental methods of calculation.

Grammar/English:

In English, we have learnt how to self-edit and colour code when we mark our own work. We have also started to read a very interesting book called the Big Game about a boy who reluctantly sets out on a journey to his Finnish homeland part of a manhood trial. In grammar, we have learnt how to diagram direct objects and what the difference is between transitive active verbs and intransitive complete verbs.

Topic:

Class Five will be learning about Mountains all around the world with a specific case study on one mountainous area. This week we looked at different mountain ranges and asked various questions about them and shared what we already knew about them.

Reminders: Swimming will be restarting next Friday (the 18th). Not all children will be going this term. Only those that have not completed 25 metres will have to go.

Homework is due in on Friday next week.
