Week 1 (06/01/2015)

Happy New Year everyone and thank you for all the lovely Christmas cards and gifts.

This week we have been talking about the new topics that we will be working on this term. The topic that has caused the most excitement is definitely The Great Fire of London. Everyone has already learnt the year in which it happened ( 1666 ) and how to draw a Tudor house, a typical style of building in London at the time. We began our topic by looking back at the history of London. Everyone shared a page with a partner to read about a particular time-zone and then we put them all in order to make a giant timeline.

As part of our topic we will be making Tudor houses out of cereal boxes, so please bring as many as possible into school. Thank you.

In our literacy lessons we have been thinking about writing instructions and so we have been looking at recipes. We read a book called Beware of Boys. In the book there are recipes for Boy Pie, Boy Soup and Boy Cake. We have been writing our own recipes for Girl Pie, they include some crazy ingredients so they are quite silly but fun to write.

I am impressed with the way the children have coped with the first week back in school and I am looking forward to another fun-filled term with class 2!
