Dear Parents/Carers,
Class R have now been at school two weeks. The children are all settling well into the new routines and are taking time to get to know each other. The children are now coming straight into school, having their snack and a good chat. They have enjoyed telling each other jokes! Here are some of our favourites!
- What’s brown and sticky?
A stick!
- What’s black and white and goes round and round?
A penguin in a washing machine!
This week the children have been sharing the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell. We talked about the language; front cover, back cover, blurb, author, illustrator and title. We told our own version of the story using the pictures. On Friday we read the text. Next week we will explore the language and discuss where the children think Mummy went?
The children have started phase 1 phonics which is all about listening. They have played Cross the River, Silly Rhyming Soup and matching instruments. Next week we will continue to play listening games and games that tune the children into different sounds.
The children have been using the language of measurement and weight during Independent Learning time. The children have explored various natural resources including conkers, feathers, and acorns. They have used them to weigh and bake cupcakes, delicious they were!
Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the ‘Class R Curriculum Meeting’ it was great to see so many of you. The office will email out the power point. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
If you have any ‘wow moments’ for your child’s learning journey; learning that your child does at home that makes you smile. Please email classr20@crowmarshgifford.oxon.sch.uk. You can also contact us on this email address if you have any queries or concerns and we can arrange an opportunity to meet at a social distance or zoom. If your query/information is urgent please always contact the office.
The first few weeks can be very tiring for the children. We do notice that the children are getting tried towards the end of the week. Please encourage them to have an early night and explain to them that they will be staying at school for while after lunch time play next week.
Have a great weekend,
Best Wishes,
Miss Zimmerman, Mrs Bowden, Mrs Mathews and Mrs Conway.
