Dear Parents/Carers,
We have started our Christmas theme, the children shared what Christmas means to them and we talked about why Christmas is celebrated. We heard all about their advent calendars and cheeky elves! The children thought of different ideas for the role-play area, they agreed on Santa’s workshop. We now have a fire, a letter shoot, a wrapping area and a workshop for making toys. If you have any old wrapping paper you now longer need please send it in to school as class R would love to reuse it in Santa’s workshop wrapping area. Thank you.
We have been sharing the story of the Nativity. The children have all chosen which character they would like to be when they perform their own nativity on Zoom on Tuesday 15th December at 2pm. We have started to rehearse songs with them. They are very excited; we are already being asked “Is it today we do our nativity?” You will not be asked to provide a costume. You could help at home by giving the opportunity to practise singing ‘Away in a Manger’ this will help them learn the words.
In Maths, we have introduced the names of some 3D shapes and have begun identifying them in our environment. You could go on a shape hunt at home with your child, look for spheres, cylinders, cuboids, cubes, triangular prisms and cones. The kitchen cupboards are a good place to start!
In Phonics, the children have been learning the tricky word ‘was’. They are now beginning to learn the grapheme/ phoneme correspondence of the consonant digraphs ‘ai’ as in rain and ‘ee’ as in tree. We have also recapped the phase 2 grapheme/phoneme correspondence so they are secure with their recognition of those. If you feel you are missing any of the flashcards to use for playing games at home please let us know. The children are doing really well at leaning them so keep up the games and activities.
Mrs Barton has signed class R up to take part in a morning ‘AmaSing Christmas Singing session’, via Zoom, on a Thursday morning until the end of the Autumn term. They had their first session this week and loved it! We look forward to the next two sessions.
