In English this week we have finished reading ‘The Wolves in the Walls’. We were all correct with our predictions that the family would break through the walls and back into the house but most of us were not expecting what happened after that! During our reading sessions, we have thought carefully about how the author intended the reader to respond and we have been ensuring that we always refer directly to the text when answering questions. In English, we started off by learning about similes and metaphors. Then we moved on to looking at the features of free-verse poetry. Later in the week, we all had a go at writing our own free verse poem, based on ‘The Wolves in the Walls.’ We wrote some fantastic poems!
More fractions this week in maths and we have been learning how to find fractions of amounts. All week we have been representing the problems on a bar model and then using our times table knowledge to solve the calculations.
This week in history we have completed our work on the Black Death. On Wednesday, we considered the impact that the Black Death had on Britain. We learnt that the poor people we able to demand better wages and had more employment choices. We found out that as a result of the Black Death, people realised that there was a need for better medical knowledge and most people acknowledged that towns and cities needed to be cleaner places. This was all difficult to put into action though! Today, we created information pages showing everything that we have learnt about the Black Death. We will be continuing with our disease and medicine though time topic after half term, starting with a look at other disease epidemics and the work of Edward Jenner.
