End of Term
So there goes the first one.
Easy to forget where we started out back in September with the nerves and the worries of a new class. Everyone looks so settled now. There is a real buzz in the class that makes it feel like a professional unit. Children are starting to have much higher expectations of themselves, applying their targets, seeking help whenever they need it and really finding ways to make the homework work for them on a personal level. The emphasis in class definitely feels to be on improvement at all times, leading to a sense of pride from every corner, which is just the way we like it.
You’ll notice that the homework this term has been maths. This has seemed relevant to me as we refine calculation techniques that will set us up for next term, while we work through some stickier ground in the English work. I felt that if I had sent home English work, it might have been too tricky to get right and so wanted to keep that in class a little longer. As I said in the curriculum talks, I want the homework to reinforce what we have covered in class rather than replace the teaching. Next term, there will be a shift in this balance as I feel more confident to start sending some English home.
