Week 3 (17/9/18)

This week in English we have been continuing with The Promise. We have been thinking about subjects and verbs and we have started to learn how to use sentence diagramming. We have also been learning how to expand noun phrases e.g. changing ‘bag’ into ‘The old bag, dusty and worn.’ In reading we have been thinking about how the mood of the main character has changed from the beginning of the book to where we are now.

In maths we have been thinking about the place value of numbers. Towards the end of the week we started to think about how numbers can be represented in different ways e.g.

2000 + 300 + 40 + 9 = 2349

2000 + 200 + 140 + 9 = 2349

Today we started to think about our local area with a particular focus on the roads. We compared a map of Crowmarsh from 1899 with a current day map. We discussed Watery Lane, Old Reading Road and the By-pass. Next Friday, we will be going on a local walk – a text message will be sent with more information.

All children should have brought home a reading record. I will start taking these in weekly as of Monday 24/9/18.
