This week in our English lessons we have watched the short story clip of ‘Sprout Boy’, the little sprout who just wants to find someone to share Christmas with. We had a go at retelling Sprout Boy’s story in our trio, listening carefully for what was good and what we could improve about the story telling. We then discovered that Sprout Boy was, in fact, a superhero! We worked in groups to come up with our own short plays about how Sprout Boy could have saved Christmas. We had some really good ideas! Later in the week we created our own story boards about Sprout Boy and used them to begin to write some super stories. We have been looking really carefully at the different features of good stories. We identified adjectives being used in noun phrases, similes, alliteration and sentences that started in different ways. We tried really hard to include these things in our own writing.
In maths we have been looking at money. In particular we have focussed on adding different amounts of coins and notes. Can you give us some money to have a go at counting? We have been trying to start with the largest amount first and then count on the other amounts. Below is an example from one of our maths lessons.
We have also begun practising our Christmas play ‘Mend the Manger’. We have been really busy learning lots of different songs and words for the play. We will be sending out letters very soon to let you know what costume your child needs.
