This week in English we have been writing our own stories in the style of ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter.’ We thought carefully about how to plan our work so that we included a journey that the main character needed to go on in order to achieve a goal. At the end of the week, we edited our writing and reflected on how this piece of work is better than the last.
In Maths we started the week looking at reading scales. We had to look carefully at the capacity/ mass pictures in order to work out the increments on the scale. Then we switched to learning about subtraction and exchanging numbers. We used place value counters at first so that we really understood the place value of the calculation. Later in the week we moved onto a formal written column subtraction.
This week we have started to rehearse our Christmas performance. You should have all received a letter about costumes and any children with lines to learn will have a script.
Two weeks ago we had a go at mummifying tomatoes. We had to-
- Make a small incision in a tomato
- Scoop out all of the seeds and insides
- Wipe the tomato with antibacterial gel
- Stuff the inside of the tomato with natron (replicated by using equal parts of table salt and bicarbonate of soda)
- Put the tomato in a container filled with natron.
This week we looked at our mummified tomatoes, we were really impressed by how well it worked!
