Week 1 (30/10/17)

Welcome to Term 2!

This week in English and guided reading we have started to look at The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Phillip Pullman. We have thought about the opening to the story and what we know about the characters. Towards the end of the week we started to plan a letter in reply to a character. We have learnt how to carefully plan our work and next week we will be focusing on actually using these plans in our writing.

In maths we have been looking at measure. We have thought about units to measure length and we have been solving problems using mm/cm/m/km. We then moved on to looking at mass. We have also been continuing with our work on column addition and subtraction.

In history we have started to think about mummification. We learnt why the Ancient Egyptians believed in mummifying bodies and we have thought about the process of mummification. Ask us what happened!

All of the children have been given a new takeaway homework grid. For this term, I am happy for the children to continue to select homework tasks from either the Autumn 1 or Autumn 2 grid.
