Next Friday, in art, we are going to be making some Tudor houses. Please could you provide your child with a cereal box to do this? Thank you.
This week in our English lessons we have been focussing on grammar. In particular, we have looked at nouns, verbs, adverbs and noun phrases. We practised describing bonfires and fireworks using noun phrases, such as ‘raging burning fireworks’ and ‘colourful sparkling fireworks’. We then wrote our own bonfire night poems using adverbs and noun phrases.
Here are just some of the brilliant lines from our poems:
Noisy colourful Catherine Wheel spinning quickly (George A)
Sparkly noisy rockets whizzing happily (Nina)
Bright colourful fireworks booming crazily in the sky (James)
Sparkly tickly flames hissing quickly (William)
Spectacular incredible Guy burning dramatically (Imogen)
Twinkling incredible stars spinning softly (Lucy)
Dark noisy night sparkling on the hill (Isla F)
In maths we have continued to work on subtraction. We have particularly focussed on subtracting a 1 or 2-digit number from a 2-digit number, where we need to exchange one ten for ten ones. E.g. 24 – 7=. We can work this out by putting the larger number in our head and counting back on a number line, using our number bonds to partition the 7 into 4 and then 3: 24 – 4 = 20, 20 – 3 =17, drawing the tens and ones and then exchanging 1of the sticks of ten for ten ones, or using the column subtraction method. Column subtraction is a bit tricky so if you get a chance please can you give us some to work out at home? This could be instead of homework from the menu.

This week we were lucky enough to have time to cook with Mrs Bun. As well as making some delicious cheese pies, we did some cheese tasting. We had to rank different cheeses from favourite to least favourite. We wrote some comments about the cheese and then decided which one we’d most like in a sandwich. We should have all brought the recipe home to have a go at making cheese pies again, please just ask if you haven’t got it and would like one.
This afternoon we did some firework mindfulness colouring. We worked very carefully and the results were really impressive!
Have a lovely weekend. Class 2, Mrs Marsh, Mrs Lucas and Mrs Scott.
