This week we have listened to an Indian story called The Elephant Dance. We looked at the author’s great use of adjectives, verbs, similes and metaphors to describe different weather types. We then created our own weather metaphors. The thunder became a frightening black dog; the sun a ginger kitten; and the snow became a polar bear cub. We tried really hard to use powerful verbs and adjectives in our writing to create an image of the weather as an animal.
In maths we have been practising our division. We have particularly focussed on using what we already know to help us. If a calculation asks us to divide by 2, 5 or 10, for example, we know that we can find the answer by counting up in steps of 2,5 or 10.
1 2 3 4 5 6
E.g. 30 ÷ 5 = ? 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 – We’ve counted 6 lots of 5 to get to 30 so the answer must be 6. You could test us on dividing by these numbers for homework!
In P.E as well as perfecting our gymnastic skills, we’ve also been practising our long distance running. Our P.E coach showed us how to get a good start and how to pace ourselves. This was really good practice for the children running in the cross country event on Saturday. We wish them lots of luck and hope the sun shines!
We’ve also made some very special cards today which will hopefully stay hidden until Sunday! We thought really carefully about what makes our mummies so special.
Wishing you all a really lovely weekend,
Class 2
