Week 1 (20/02/17)

Maths

We have been converting grams (g) to kilogrammes (kg) and back again using a function machine. The word problems can also be represented by using either a bar model or a ‘billy’. The crucial aspect is that we can extract correct information from the data to complete it.

We have also been looking roman numerals. I = 1, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4, V = 5.

Today’s date in Roman Numerals is……. XXIV.II.MMXVII (24/2/2017)

 English

We have been mostly studying grammar with a main focus of tenses.

We have also looked at pronouns: personal (I, she, we….), possessive (mine, yours, his….), indefinite someone, anyone, no-one…), reflexive (myself, yourself, itself…), relative (who, which, that…), possessive adjectives (my, its, our….)

We can look at a sentence and identify which pronoun is being used to replace repeatedly using the noun.

As well as pronouns, we are practicing constructing complex and compound sentences.

 Science

We became teachers in small groups, each taking it in turns to ‘teach’ each other about the moon, the sun and Earth. What are their relationships? What do they do with each other? There are good and bad phases ….. and Venus is up!

Art

In art this week we have been creating pictures using inspiration from the Japanese watercolour paintings.  Watercolour painting is finer and you use a fine hair paintbrush using water to help create effects. We have only been using black, red and brown to create a lovely effect of light and dark.  The subject is two storks flying over the mountains near the sun.
