Week 4 (26/09/2016)

Maths

This week we have been concentrating on numbers to 10, 20 and beyond 20. We have been looking at ‘teen’ numbers. We have been thinking about the meaning of ‘teen’. Can you write the number 14? What does the ‘1’ stand for? What does the 4 mean?

You could have a conversation about ‘Teen’ numbers.

Science

We have been thinking about salty sea water this week. We wondered if there was any difference between salty water like the sea and fresh water like we have in rivers.

We made a potato shark and predicted if it would float or sink on / in the salty and non-salty water.

We then poured the fresh water on top of the salty water (Two different colours) and predicted if our shark would float.

Result – Our shark floated in the middle of the bowl, on top of the salty water but under the fresh water. We had some good discussions.

We froze our bowls of water and explored if there was any difference. There was. Ask your child what they noticed.

English

We have been talking about Harvest Time and looking at instructions for making Harvest bread. We noticed that instructions are a bit bossy, they tell you what to do.  We followed the instructions to make Hedgehog Bread rolls, they looked great and hopefully taste good!
