Purple Learning Week
This week has been full of different activities to help the children develop their purple learning skills.
On Monday the children learnt about brains and how our brain sends messages around our body by using a system of nerves. They sculpted a model of a brain and made a neuron out of pipe cleaners. In the afternoon the children designed their purple learning tiles to symbolize what purple learning means, bearing in mind the words: Yet, Grit, Resilience, Challenge, Fail, Success, Focus.
On Tuesday, the day’s theme was Maths. Class 5 started off on a Maths trail that had been set around the school. They had 10 questions to locate and answer the various problems using their Maths knowledge to solve them. The children moved onto International themed Maths Investigations. Here they practiced using Symmetry, Times Tables, Ratio, Geometry, Time and Number problems. In PSCHE the children were asked to do a time line of their life, putting a significant moment down for each year. They were then posed with the question of “What would you like to achieve in the next year of your life?” It will be fascinating to see whether they have managed to reach their goal this time next year!
On Wednesday the children took part all day in “The Learning Pit”. Please ask your child about this.
During Thursday Class 5 had another Step up morning with Mr Sylvester in Year 6. In English Mrs Barlow re-set the children’s first ever piece of writing, entitled “La Luna” so they can re-write it, putting in to practice all that they have learnt during their time in Class 5. During the afternoon we joined the rest of the school along with their completed Purple Learning tiles for a whole school Mosaic photo session. In PE the children practiced their Jumping techniques for the Standing Triple Jump and Standing Long Jump. They also discussed in their houses and tried out various tactics to improve their House Long Track running relay teams all ready for Sports Day.
Friday the final Purple Learning task they were given had derived from Austin’s Butterfly video. The video showed Austin working on his picture of a Butterfly, taking feedback from others and improving his work until he achieved a fantastic drawing. When they returned to class they applied this to drawing their own scenes from Robin Hood.
