English
Class 5 have been continuing with the 100 Word Challenge. This week they had to include the words: Mountain, Red, Floated, Hard, Umbrella in to their story. The children have also continued working on their set questions in relation to the book that the whole class is reading, called: The River Singers. They had to plan their paragraphs carefully using the PEE method: Point, Evidence and Explain.
Maths
During Maths we have introduced Class 5 to using a Compass. They have been working on developing their accuracy with drawing and measuring the radius, diameter and circumference of a circle.
Science
This week Class 5 have been investigating the absorption qualities of various materials. Firstly, the children discussed and made predictions as to which material would be the best. After that each table set up a fair experiment to test which material out of: Paper, Felt, Hessian, Sponge, J-Cloth and Paper Towel would absorb the most water. They recorded their results in a table and then made a bar graph to clearly compare the results so they could write a conclusion to the experiment.
Computing
This week the children have been developing their Scratch Maze games. They have been working on creating loops for various sprites to follow, adding sounds, de-bugging, adding additional screens (e.g. a Title Screen and End Screen) and how to give your player “Lives” that reduce when they come in to contact with it’s opposition.
PE
Mr Shorter has been working with the children on developing their Gymnastic skills. Please find a video below that shows the children designing their own routines.
Homework
Please continue working on your Rivers Project tasks over the weekend ready for Monday.
English homework has also been set this week and will be due back in on Wednesday (so hopefully their green English Home Learning book should have arrived home with them).
