For our topic work this week we watched the film ‘The Snowman’. We discussed the main stages of the story and then Mrs Lucas had a go at telling the story to us –her first attempt was terrible, so we gave her a list of things to improve on before she tried again! Fortunately, Mrs Lucas was being a good purple learner and took our advice on board meaning that her second attempt was much better! We then had a go at telling the story to our trios, using all the things we’d agreed should be included. Ask what we had to include to be effective storytellers. Later in the week we drew storyboard (picture) versions of the story in preparation for writing it next week. We also collected a range of words that we thought might come in handy for linking our ideas.
In Maths we have been learning the names of all coins and starting to understand their value. We have been finding different ways to make amounts of money – ask us how many different ways we can make 10p.
During our ICT session we used programmable toys called Beebots. Some of our positional language (forwards, backwards, left, right) came in very handy as we commanded the Beebots to move from one place to another.
