Week 1 (01/06/2015)

Welcome back! We hope you all had a relaxing half term.

This week we started our ‘Houses and Homes’ topic with an initial focus on castles. We brainstormed what we already know and wrote a list of things we would like to find out about castles.  Did you know that the first Motte and Bailey castles in our country were made out of wood? Ask us to tell you what the castles were like, where they were built and why people eventually stopped building them with wood.  Later castles were built from stone – the children can explain why this was a better choice of building material.

Later in the week we found out what all the different parts of the castle were and what their purpose was.  We also learned about the people who lived in the castle and the roles they played. Ask us to tell you about some of them.

In ICT, we created pictures of castles using a program called ‘2go’ which only allowed us to draw horizontal and vertical lines! We were very proud of our pictures. Likewise, we were very pleased with our representations on Paul Klee’s ‘Castle and Sun’ painting which we created in Art.

In Maths, we have been ordering 2 digit numbers by looking at how many tens and ones they have. We have also been finding a number that comes between two given numbers. Ask us to practise this more at home.

TASK:  Who can order and sequence numbers using these maths games?
