Week 1 (01/06/2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children had a busy week before half term. We had firefighters come to visit with the fire engine as well as multicultural week. We have added some photographs for you to see what the children have been learning about.

This week we have been sharing our holiday experiences. We talked about what we did in the holiday and then used different media including chalks, paint, and pencil crayons to draw the places we visited, the people we saw and the toys we played with. We then used our knowledge of letters and sounds to write about what we did. We have tried to remember that our sentences need capital letters, fingers spaces, full stops and they must make sense!

In Mathematics, we have been challenging ourselves to use our knowledge to solve problems involving addition and sharing. We have been finding different ways to make ten.

This week we continued our theme of growing. We discussed the statement ‘Plants are the most important thing living on Earth’, talked about what plants are and the children researched where different plants might grow in the world creating thought showers of their ideas. During independent learning time the children have been using the foam mats outside to create dances and plays. The children have really appreciated the full junk modelling box!

On Monday we have introduced the chickens into their new cope on the KS2 playground. This week we also welcomed Miss James into our class. She has been working in Class 1 and has now joined the Foundation Stage team. She will be in school full time, except for a Thursday afternoon.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Zimmerman, Mrs Bowden and Miss James.
