I hope everyone had a lovely half term. I have heard all sorts of lovely stories about trips and adventures some of you got up to during your week off.
In Maths this week we have looked at a new method, expanded column addition, to add two 3 digit numbers together. The method encourages children to partition the numbers ensuring they have a good understanding of place value before carrying into the tens and hundreds column. E.g. 236 + 123
200 30 6
+ 100 20 3
____________
300 50 9 = 359
The whole class have been so enthusiastic about this new method and have really challenged themselves by creating some tricky sums for each other to solve.
In English Class Three have used the format of ‘How the Night Came’ to create and retell some myths of their own. They will write these up next week and spend some time editing them before turning them into multimedia e-books on the computers.
The explorer dome has been in this week teaching Class 3 about how light works. Please ask your child about their experience and what they learnt as the demonstrations were incredible and a few lucky children had the chance to participate in the demonstrations.
