Happy New Year and welcome back to Year 6!
Everyone has come back looking refreshed, with boundless energy and enthusiasm for the year ahead. Spring term is a short one which helps to keep the momentum and focus on learning and it’s good to be back in a routine after the long Christmas break. Here are some of the things we’ve been looking at this week and will continue as the term progresses.
Maths
Challenging our mental maths skills with long division, multiplication and finding the difference between 2 numbers.
English
Oh the joys of grammar (my favourite topic)! Working out and recognising the active and passive voice and a general refresher. In punctuation we are starting to learn the rules of colons and semi- colons and when it is appropriate to use them.
Science
This week our space topic started and we are getting ready to start a large space display which hopefully will get everybody involved. Mr Silvester has been inspiring us with his collection of space videos; the class have watched in awe and thought of some in-depth questions that they’d like to find out as part of the project.
Reading
Most groups have a new guided reading book and are in a good routine of regular group reading and reflection about their group text.
Handwriting
A new push on handwriting this term as our journey to secondary school approaches. We are very proud to send our children on to their next school with a high standard of handwriting and primary school may be their last opportunity to develop a consistent style.
Very best wishes for 2015!
