As you know from the homework, Class Three have been looking at non-fiction information texts. After comparing lots of examples (thank you for being so generous with the homework) each child designed and created their own leaflet about The Stone Age. I have been impressed with the children’s knowledge and understanding of such a tricky topic; and we have all enjoyed the topic show and tells that have come in. So far we have only covered The Stone Age therefore after half term our topic will continue by looking in more detail at the Bronze Age and then finally The Iron Age.
In Maths we have been practicing doubling and halving 2 digit numbers using partitioning to help. For example we can halve 46 by partitioning into 40 and 6. Half of 40 is 20 and half of 6 is 3, put them back together to get the answer 23.
Over the half term
– Please do lots of practice of times tables. Being able to recall multiplication facts quickly will enhance almost all areas of children’s Maths understanding.
– Spelling books are being sent home over the half term so parents will be able to see how children have coped so far with the high frequency words. The children have not yet been tested on all of the words; however, spelling that children have correctly spelt could be highlighted on the home copy to clearly show which words they know. This will also be a visual reminder to show which spellings they need more practice on.
– There will also be English homework sent home on Friday. The focus is on creative writing as they will be describing a ‘Strange planet.’ You could remind them to use some of the wow words and similes we have talked about in class to really make their writing come to life.
Finally, I hope you all have a relaxing half term. The children have worked incredibly hard this term and are definitely due some time to recuperate.
